Some Lesser Known Facts About Paoli Dam

Paoli Dam was born in a Bengali family in India, but her parental roots are in Faridpur (now in Bangladesh).

She was good at studies in her school and college days and also earned a few scholarships.

After making her television debut with the Bengali TV series ‘Jibon Niye Khela’ (1999), she appeared in the TV series ‘Tithir Atithi,’ which aired on ETV Bangla (now Colors Bangla). She played a negative role in the television series.

Her debut Bengali film ‘Teen Yaari Katha,’ which was produced in 2004, was released in theatres in 2012.

Her first Bengali film to have a theatrical release was titled ‘Agnipariksha’ (2006) in which she played the role of Pooja.

She received immense appreciation for her performance as Madhabilata in the Bengali film ‘Kaalbela’ in 2009. She also worked as a playback singer for the film.

In 2010, she appeared alongside Prosenjit Chatterjee in the biographical musical drama Bengali film ‘Moner Manush.’ She essayed the role of Komli in the film.

Paoli Dam stirred up a sensation on the internet in 2011 when a video clip from the Bengali film ‘Chatrak’ was leaked online. The clip, featuring Dam, sparked debate due to its explicit nature. ^[1]India Today

She played the lead role of Gunja in the Bengali film ‘Promotion’ (2013), starring Indraneil Sengupta.

The actress has been featured in several Indian Bengali films including ‘I Love You’ (2007), ‘Thana Theke Aschi’ (2010), ‘Elar Char Adhyay’ (2012), ‘Chaya Manush’ (2014), ‘Konttho’ (2019), and ‘Ektu Sore Bosun’ (2023).

She essayed the lead role of Sobha in the Konkani-language film ‘Baga Beach’ (2013), directed by Laxmikant Shetgaonkar.

After making her Bollywood debut with the film ‘Hate Story’ (2012), she was featured in an item number in the comedy-horror film ‘Gang of Ghosts’ in 2015.

Paoli Dam was featured opposite Parambrata Chatterjee in the 2015 Hindi film ‘Yaara Silly Silly.’ She played the role of Mallika a.k.a. Devanshi S Roy in the film.

In 2016, she appeared as Sucharita Sen in the Bengali television series ‘Mahanayak,’ which was broadcast on the channel on Star Jalsha. Her character in the TV series is based on the life of the popular actress from the 1960s-70s, Sucharita Sen.

Some of her other Bengali television series include ‘Tarpor Chand Uthlo’ on Tara TV, ‘Sonar Harin’ on ETV Bangla, and ‘Scandal’ on Tara TV.

Besides Indian Bengali films, Paoli Dam was also featured in a Bangladeshi Bengali film named ‘Swatta’ in 2017 in which she essayed the role of Shikha.

She played the titular role in the Hindi short film ‘Mirchi Malini’ from the anthology series ‘Teen Paheliyan’ (2018). The anthology series was aired on StarPlus.

In 2022, she acted alongside Richa Chadha in the Hindi web series ‘The Great Indian Murder,’ which premiered on the OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar. She played the role of Shabnam Saxena in the series.

Her performance as Indrani Roy in the Hindi web series ‘Karm Yuddh’ (2022) received huge praise from the audience. The web series was streamed on Disney+ Hotstar.
