• Momoa’s mother, Coni, hails from Norwalk, Iowa, and his father, Joseph, is from Waianae, Nanakuli in Hawaii.

• Jason Momoa is an only child. His parents separated when he was an infant.

• After that, he was raised by his mother in Norwalk. However, he would spend his summers in Hawaii.

• Growing up, Momoa travelled extensively with her mother who was fond of travelling.

• After high school, he chose marine biology as his major, studying for a period in the Florida Keys. However, he later transferred to Colorado State University and switched his major to wildlife biology.

• In 1998, Momoa was discovered by international designer Takeo Kobayashi who introduced him to a modelling career.

• Momoa won the title of Hawaii’s Model of the Year in 1999.

• In 1999, on the set of Baywatch, he met actress Simmone Jade Mackinnon and started dating her. The two dated for six years and got engaged in 2004.

• Jason Momoa and Simmone Jade Mackinnon called off their engagement in 2005 after Momoa started dating actress Lisa Bonet, who was Momoa’s childhood crush.

• It was rumoured that Momoa and Bonet got married on 15 November 2007, but the couple did not marry until October 2017.

Around 2004, when he was playing the role of Ronon Dex, he had shoulder-length dreadlocks. In 2011, he dropped his dreadlocks for medium-length wavy hair. In 2013, he again cropped his hair short. Later, he again grew out his hair. He partially cut his signature long hair in 2022 to raise awareness about pollution caused by plastic use.
