• Prakash Belawadi is an Indian film and television actor. He is also an acclaimed theatre and media personality. He also works as a teacher and activist. In 2010, he was chosen as a mentor of the BISFF (Bengaluru International Short Film Festival). In 2022, he appeared in the film ‘The Kashmir Files,’ which was based on the exodus and genocide of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990.

• Prakash Belawadi belongs to a family of theatre artists in Bangalore. His father, Belavadi Nanjundaiah Narayan, was a renowned theatre artist from 1929 to 2003 and was popularly known as Makeup Nani. Belavadi Nanjundaiah Narayan appeared in various Kannada films along with working as a make-up artist. Prakash Belawadi’s mother was also a theatre artist, who appeared in various Kannada films.

• In 1976, Prakash Belawadi made his acting debut with the Kannada film Bangaravayithu as Shambhu. Later, he worked in the Hindi movie Madras Cafe as Bala in 2013. • In May 2021, Prakash Belawadi took to his Facebook page and wrote an inflammatory post that pointed to the Muslims as ‘the others,’ and he mentioned that these Muslims were responsible for the post-poll violence in West Bengal. His post also pointed to the 2002 Gujarat Pogrom. Reportedly, Prakash Belawadi’s post supported indirectly Sangh Parivar’s battle against the minorities. The post was shared widely by the Right-wingers and BJP supporters in Karnataka and all across Indian states.   I am privileged to be part of ‘The Kashmir Files’. When I was sent the script for reading by Vivek Agnihotri, I was shocked because until then I did not have details of the horrors and exodus of Kashmiri pandits from the state of Jammu and Kashmir in 1990s.”

  Prakash Belawadi further added that he was feeling guilty about keeping silent on the exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits issue as he was working as a journalist at that time. Prakash Belawadi said,

  I feel mortified, I also feel guilty as I was a journalist at that time and prided myself as someone equipped with the contemporary events, but I see it was not the case. I feel it’s correct for me to apologise to the community for being a part of this indifference for a long period.”
