Some Lesser Known Facts About Agam Kumar Nigam
- Agam Kumar Nigam is an Indian singer. He is popular for singing melancholic songs. He is known for being the father of the renowned playback singer Sonu Nigam.
- Since he was a child, he dreamt of becoming a singer. At the young age of 4, he started singing in small shows like Ramleela and other stage performances.
- At the beginning of his singing career, he had to travel long distances to perform where he get only Rs 25.
- In an interview, he revealed that when he was 15 years old, he ran away from home with his friend named Balkishan Dhawan, hoping to find opportunities in playback singing. However, he eventually returned to his hometown. Later, in 1968, he made a final decision and moved from Faridabad to Mumbai, where he continued his singing career.
- The singer faced difficulty in achieving notable success in Mumbai because, during that era, the music industry was dominated by famous singers like Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, and Mukesh. This made it difficult for Agam to get chances as a playback singer. So, he decided to perform in orchestra and stage shows to showcase his talent.
- Later, the singer shifted to Delhi and worked there as a stage artist for around eighteen years. In an interview, he revealed the reason behind shifting to Delhi from Mumbai. He said that once he visited his hometown, Faridabad for some work and at that time, a famous singing show called ‘Khushrang Deshara’ was happening in Delhi, where well-known singers from Punjab like Surinder Kaur, Asa Singh Mastana, and Narendra Chanchal came to perform. Upon being invited to the show, he performed there and received immense appreciation and praise. This experience inspired him to make the decision of moving to Delhi and continue his work as a singer there.
- After launching his debut album ‘Uski Yaadon Mein’ (2002), Agam Kumar Nigam came out with his second album titled ‘Bewafaai’ (2004), comprising nine songs. This album was warmly welcomed by the audience and became a turning point in the singer’s career.
- Following the success of his album ‘Bewafaai,’ Agam Kumar Nigam released the second series titled ‘Phir Bewafaai’ in 2007. This was followed by several more series of the ‘Bewafaai’ album, including ‘Woh Bewafa’ in 2008, ‘Bewafaai Ka Aalam’ in 2010, ‘Phir Se Bewafaai’ in 2015, and ‘Bewafa Dholna’ in 2019.

At first, he wasn’t happy that she was his singing partner because she only sang part-time. However, as they spent more time together during the concert, they became great friends and, over time, Agam developed feelings of love for her.
At the end of the 11 concerts I realized that this was the girl who I wanted to marry. It was like a new chapter just opened for us seamlessly. When we returned, we were even more drawn to each other.”
- In March 2023, Agam Kumar Nigam’s house in Oshiwara was robbed, and a sum of Rs 72 lakh was stolen. The singer promptly reported the incident to the Oshiwara Police Station. After conducting an investigation, the police discovered that the singer’s former driver, Rehan, was responsible for the theft. However, the police managed to recover Rs 70.70 lakh from the accused. Later, Rehan was charged under sections 380 (theft), 454 (trespassing), and 457 (housebreaking).
