Some Lesser Known Facts About Aditya Yadav

• Aditya Yadav is an Indian Deaflympics badminton player. She came into the limelight in 2022, when she won a gold medal in the team championship during the Deaf Olympic tournaments which were held in Brazil. Aditya and her teammate, Gerlin, created history by defeating the doubles players of Japan by 21-15 points during the championships.

• According to her family members, Aditya faced challenges since childhood as she cannot speak. However, she did not let this stop her and started playing badminton when she was just 5 years old. She participated in a national tournament at the age of 9 and started playing at the international level when she was 12 years old.

• Aditya’s father, Digvijay Yadav, is also a good badminton player. He works as a badminton coach in Uttar Pradesh Railways. In an interview with an online media house, Digvijay shared that he celebrated his daughter’s birth with joy. However, after two years, they discovered that their daughter couldn’t speak, which left them feeling a bit disappointed. They went to Delhi for treatment, and the doctors suggested a cochlear implant for Aditya, but it cost Rs. 15 lakhs. They managed to arrange the money, but when Digvijay noticed some other children who had undergone the implant surgery and faced more difficulties afterwards, he became worried and decided not to proceed with the treatment.

• According to her father, Aditya did not have many opportunities to practice before 2019, so she used to practice at home, hitting the shuttlecock against the wall. Despite this, she focused on maintaining her fitness. Aditya has been guided and coached by Digvijay Nath. Once, in a media interview, her father narrated that Aditya Yadav practised diligently for three hours every day and spent her mornings at the Railway Stadium and her evenings at the Levins Academy.

• In 2019, Aditya Yadav won a gold medal in the Yonex Sunrise Hamish Infrastructure UP State Championship.

• When she was ten years old, Aditya Yadav made history by becoming the first female player from India to participate in the Deaf World Championship held in Chinese Taipei in the year 2019. Once, India’s famous badminton player, PV Sindhu, gave her some advice during a tournament in Delhi and suggested that Aditya’s father should support her talent further.

• In 2019, she participated in the Uttar Pradesh Games of the Deaf Badminton tournament and won a Gold medal in the singles championship.

• In 2022, Aditya Yadav participated in the Deaflympics which were organised in Brazil. She won a gold medal in the team championship. She defeated Chinese Taipei in the semi-finals and Japan in the final.

• Later, Aditya Yadav went on to win many medals including a Gold medal in Under 21 Girls Doubles, a Silver medal in Singles and a Bronze medal in Mixed Doubles in the Asia Pacific Deaf Youth Badminton Championship in 2022, a Gold medal in Women’s Double and a Bronze medal in Women’s Single Gold, single and double silver medals in the team event of the 3rd Junior World Deaf Championships in July 2023.

• Digvijay always wished for his daughter, Aditya Yadav, to achieve something so remarkable that no one could ever criticize or doubt her, despite her birth-related challenges. In 2022, during a media conversation, Digvijay expressed that he wanted his daughter to win an Olympics medal in the general category too. He said,
  

  I made sure that my daughter achieved something big in her life so that no one would ever dare to laugh at my daughter’s deficiency. We came to know about her by-birth no-hearing problem when she was just two-and-a-half and from that day, I wanted to make her a special child.”

• In June 2022, Aditya Yadav was honoured with an incentive of Rs. 5 lakhs by Akhilesh Yadav.

• Once, in a media talk, her mother said that Aditya Yadav focused on physical exercise through games, and her father played a coaching role by guiding, scolding when needed, and teaching her discipline. She stayed away from indulging in chaat, phulki, ice cream, and sweets.

• The Clean Slate Foundation (CS) sponsored her for two years (from 2022 to 2024) to support her training. The sponsorship included providing her with gear, racquets, shuttle sets, and a kit as well as arranging specialized mentoring support and meeting her nutritional needs.
