Controversy | Alleged Involvement in Malpractices After the Enforcement Directorate (ED) took Jyotipriya Mallick into their custody due to his alleged involvement in the Ration Scam, it came to light that Priyadarshini had been designated as the director of three fictitious enterprises. Jyotipriya had set up these companies to divert funds acquired through the sale of rations meant for the disadvantaged amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The ED claims that the embezzled funds were later transferred to the bank accounts of Priyadarshini and her mother, Manidipa. [2]Hindustan Times Priyadarshini allegedly placed Rs. 3.37 crores into her account following the implementation of demonetization by the Government of India in 2016. But when interrogated by the ED, she told them that the funds deposited were earnings from tuition. While giving an interview, an official of the ED said, "She (Priyardashini) is a school teacher and claimed all this amount was earned through tuition. In that financial year, her annual salary was Rs 2.48 lakh." The Mallick family's bank accounts were later frozen by the ED. Priyadarshini defended herself by claiming her innocence in the case and contending that her family was being conspired against. In an interview, she said, "It is quite clear now that ED arrests someone first and starts the probe after that. However, the matter is being investigated and I cannot make any comment at this juncture. My father will be in a position to say whether there is any conspiracy behind him being arrested." Several politicians from the All India Trinamool Congress (AITMC), including Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, expressed support for Jyotipriya Mallick and his family.
