Some Lesser Known Facts About R. C. Tiwari
- R. C. Tiwari is a lieutenant general of the Indian Army who has held the command of many important army units. He came into the limelight after the Government of India gave him the command of the Eastern Command of the Indian Army in December 2023.
- After completing school studies, Tiwari underwent a three-year military training module at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla, Pune.
- Later, he underwent a one-year military training program at the Dehradun-based Indian Military Academy (IMA).
- He joined the Indian Army’s infantry regiment, the Kumaon Regiment, in 1987 as a second lieutenant.
- After some time, he was posted to Belgaum, Karnataka, where he completed the initial military courses.
- As a major, he was made a company commander in his battalion.
- Thereafter, he was tasked to undergo the Junior Command (JC) course at Mhow in Madhya Pradesh.
- He held the post of Second-in-Command (2IC) of his battalion after getting promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel.
- As a colonel, he took over the command of a Rashtriya Rifles (RR) battalion of the Indian Army, which was involved in counter-insurgency operations in the Kashmir valley.
- Upon becoming a brigadier, Tiwari was given the responsibility of handling a brigade located in the high-altitude region near the Line of Control (LOC).
- Later, he was selected to go on a United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission.
- Tiwari took over as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 3 Corps, also known as Spear Corps, in Kohima, Nagaland, on 1 March 2022. He was sent there as a replacement for Lt Gen Johnson P. Mathew. He remained in the post till 6 March 2023.
- He has served as the patron of the Army Public School in Gangtok,
- Thereafter, he was asked to report in Jaipur, Rajasthan, where he was appointed as the chief of staff of the South Western Command.
- R. C. Tiwari took over the reign of the Eastern Command from Lt Gen R. P. Kalita on 1 January 2023.
