• Spencer Johnson is an Australian cricketer who is known for being a T20I death-over specialist. He gained attention for bowling many economical spells in various Big Bash League (BBL) matches. He made headlines after the Gujarat Titans (GT) acquired him for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season for Rs 10 crores.

• He was born into a family of sportspersons as his father, Greg, initially played rugby (Australian football) for South Broken Hill and later for West Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League. His brothers also played for West Adelaide later.

• His bowling speeds have mostly been recorded over 145 kmph (90 mph).  His fastest ball speed is around 150 kmph (93mph).

• After passing out of high school in 2013, Spencer Johnson worked as a pastry chef for 12 months to earn money. He later opened a home turf business with his brother, and 18 months before he was picked by Gujarat Titans for the 2024 IPL season, he was working as a landscape gardener to make ends meet.

• He suffered a stress fracture in his ankle in 2017 due to which he could not run and had to rest for several months. Two surgeries were done to heal the injury; however, when they were unsuccessful, his doctors decided to put screws in his ankle joint. When Johnson’s doctor, who was the best foot surgeon available in Sydney, said that he had never done such type of surgery, Johnson became fearful of the chances of surgery being successful. His body rejected the screws, and the whole process of treatment was done again.
