Controversy | Banned from playing an Olympic match During the India vs UK hockey match at the Paris Olympics in August 2024, a controversy erupted when Amit was given a red card by the video referee and banned from playing the next match. This incident occurred when Amit accidentally hit a British player in the face with his hockey stick while moving forward with the ball. Later, Hockey India filed an official complaint with the Olympics Committee claiming the banning to be illegal. Hockey India also pointed that the British goalkeeper was not penalized for using an iPad during the match. The statement read, "These incidents have undermined confidence in the officiating process among players, coaches, and fans. Hockey India calls for a thorough review of these matters to uphold the integrity of the sport and ensure fair play in future matches." |
