- Muhammad Salaam was a member of the Indian football team which came 4th in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. He was awarded Best Defender in the 1956 Olympics.
- In April 2024, a Bollywood film ‘Maidaan’ was released which featured Ajay Devgn as Syed Abdul Rahim, the coach of the Indian football team which qualified for the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.
- He played for Mohammedan Sporting Club and helped his team win the Calcutta Football League and IFA Shield in 1957.
- Salaam later served as the Manager of the India Under-19 football team, which was the joint winner (with Iran) of the AFC Youth Championship in 1974.
