- Nuwan was discovered by a local politician while playing in a six-a-side cricket tournament.
- Nuwan’s nickname ‘Podi Malinga’ translates to “Little Malinga” in Sinhalese, this is because his bowling action resembles the former Sri Lankan cricketer Lasith Malinga’s bowling action.
