• Before marriage, she lived in different cities like Chandigarh, Baroda, Bangalore, and Pune due to her father’s transferable job.

• After her B.Ed, she started teaching at St. Mary’s Convent School, Kasauli. She was the class teacher of Class 5 and taught history and civics to class 6 to 10.

• The first salary cheque she got was Rs 600, which she used to purchase the long play of Michael Jackson‘s Thriller.

• She worked as a teacher at Birla Vidya Niketan in Saket, New Delhi.

• As her name was unlike other Punjabi names, people thought Savita was not Punjabi and that her marriage to Jaspal Bhatti was a love marriage.

• She did her post-graduation and a course in journalism after marriage.

• She secured the third position at Panjab University during her journalism and mass communication degree.

• Soon, she started her career in the entertainment industry, along with her husband, Jaspal.

• In 1989, Jaspal and Savita Bhatti became a household name with the Hindi TV sitcom Flop Show on DD National. The show was written, directed, and produced by Jaspal and Savita. In the show, Savita played the role of Preeti Bhatti (wife of Jaspal Bhatti’s character).

• In 1995, Jaspal Bhatti established the production house ‘Jaspal Bhatti Films’ and Savita became its executive producer. The company closed down after Jaspal Bhatti died in a car accident on 25 October 2012.

• In 1995, Jaspal and Savita started appearing in the satirical comedy show Full Tension on DD National. She would play a different character in each episode.

• She has starred in various Punjabi comedy films including Jija Ji (2005), Chakk De Phatte (2008), Power Cut (2012), and Dushman: A Story of the Enemy Within (2017).

• In 2006, Savita appeared in the Hindi romantic thriller film Fanaa in which she played the role of a tourist at Humayun’s Tomb.

• Other Hindi films in which she appeared include Mere Dad Ki Maruti (2013) and Irada (2017).

• In 2008, Jaspal and Savita Bhatti were contestants on the celebrity dance reality show Nach Baliye 4 on Star Plus.

• Jaspal and Savita started the Nonsense Club which highlighted the issues faced by the common man. They would perform spoofs on political and social issues in Chandigarh. Savita serves as the Chief Coordinator of the club.

• She is the Chairman of Mad Arts, Jaspal Bhatti Film School, which was founded by her husband.

• In memory of Jaspal Bhatti, Savita organises the Jaspal Bhatti Comedy Film Festival every year on his birthday.

• She has written various articles for Blog “N” You online magazine, including “Our Pure and Pious Radhe Maa” and “Why Vulgarity Is Important In Punjabi Music Today?” and “I Can Die Too…If It Ends A Scam!.”

• Apart from that, her articles have also been featured in Dainik Bhaskar and The Sunday Guardian.

• In 2013, she received Padma Bhushan on behalf of Jaspal Bhatti, who was honoured posthumously.

• Ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, AAP named Savita as the candidate for the Chandigarh seat. Various AAP workers protested her candidature stating she had not applied for the ticket but was chosen by the party due to her celebrity status.

• On 9 March 2014, Savita opted out of the Lok Sabha elections from AAP after the party fielded Gul Panag from Chandigarh instead of Bhatti. She announced she would remain apolitical and would not campaign for any party.
