Some Lesser Known Facts About Rajvardhan Hangargekar

• Rajvardhan loved playing cricket since he was a kid, and his father supported him in pursuing cricket as his career. It was his father’s dream to see him play for India.

• He was 9 when he joined a cricket academy in Osmanabad, where he met his first coach, Ram Hirapure. He started his career as a batsman with off-spin bowling.

• He became a pacer unexpectedly. While playing for the Osmanabad district U-14 team, when he saw his team struggling for a fast bowler, he opted for it and bowled really well. He later started working on his bowling line, length, and bowling action as a professional pacer.

• Tejas Matapurkar (the coach for Maharashtra’s U-16 team at the time) was very impressed with Rajvardhan’s strength and his work ethics and used to call him “Stallion.” When Rajvardhan approached him regarding his off-season workout, Tejas Matapukar suggested he stay in Pune and work on his fitness and even offered to stay at his home.

• In 1016, after seeing his performance as an all-rounder, he was selected to play for the Maharashtra U-16 team.

• He played the 2017-18 Vijay Merchant Trophy, where he took 17 wickets in 6 matches with an average of 24.

• In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic Rajvardhan lost his father.

• On 16 January 2021, he made his T20 debut for Maharashtra in the 2020-21 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
