• Subodh Kumar’s father was an elementary school teacher.

• In 1997, Subodh successfully passed the UPSC examination and underwent training the following year, in 1998. Subsequently, he acquired his initial posting as an Assistant Collector in the Mandla district.

• Subodh was appointed the first District Panchayat CEO of Bastar following the division of Chhattisgarh into its own state. After being appointed Raigarh Collector in 2002, he was also named MD of Markfed and NAN, and he also held the position of director of the Animal Directorate.

• In 2005, Subodh Singh was once again appointed as the collector of Raipur. Subsequently, he assumed the role of collector in Bilaspur, and shortly thereafter, resumed his position as the collector of Raipur. He is acknowledged for his role in leading the introduction of the city bus service in both districts.

• From 2009 to 2018, Subodh Singh worked for the three times that state’s BJP chief minister, Raman Singh, for nine years in the Chhattisgarh Secretariat. He held the positions of joint secretary and deputy secretary in the personnel and general administration department, special secretary and director for personnel management, and secretary to the chief minister.

• Subodh Singh held positions at the Chief Minister’s Office as the managing director of the state’s electricity distribution agency, secretary of the Department of Mineral Resources, and secretary of industries and commerce before accepting a central deputation in 2020.

• Subodh also held the position of additional secretary in the Department of Food and Public Distribution within the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution.

• As of 2024, Subodh was serving as the Director General National Testing Agency before allegations of irregularities in the NEET and NET competitive exams.
