He belongs to a Tamil family of music artists in Tamil Nadu.

After completing his graduation in London, he started singing for demos for his cousins Yuvan Shankar Raja and Karthik Raja and worked as a playback singer in the Tamil film industry.

Later, he started working as an actor in films as a main lead but due to various reasons, his first three films were shelved. Later, he started appearing in character roles in Tamil films.

In 1996, he with his brother Premgi Amaren and S. P. B. Charan formed a music band called Next Generation.

Some of the people with whom he frequently collaborates while working on Tamil films are Premgi Amaren, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Praveen K. L., and Shakthi Saravanan.
