- Ashwani Kumar was born in a middle-class Punjabi family. According to one source, his father passed away when he was young.
- According to another source, his father is well and young.
- His mother raised him as a single parent and encouraged him to play cricket.
- He once suffered a serious injury, after which he received treatment and took almost a year to return to the cricket ground.
- He made his first-class debut for Punjab in 2019 and his Ranji Trophy debut in 2021.
- Mumbai Indians (MI) scouts first spotted him during the 2024 Sher-e-Punjab Trophy, where they were impressed by his ability to bowl wide yorkers in death overs.
- He refused a job offer in 2024 that would have given him enough financial stability but required him to leave cricket and move out of Punjab.
