Some Lesser Known Facts About Ashraf Hamza

  • After completing his formal education, Ashraf Hamza began his film career by directing a short film titled Bihar, which was based on the story of U. P. Jayaraj.

  • He then went on to direct several documentaries, short films, and ad films.

  • Ashraf Hamza then worked on a feature-length film with his friend and film director Muhsin Parari.

  • Muhsin Parari once asked him to write a script after the 2015 film ‘KL 10 Patthu’ failed at the box office. The project was shelved, and this later became the 2022 film Thallumaala.

  • After that, Lijo Jose Pellissery and Chemban Vinod Jose asked him to direct an independent remake of the 2017 Kannada film Ondu Motteya Kathe.

  • Ashraf Hamza took the idea to Indian cinematographer and screenwriters Sameer Thahir and Shyju Khalid, who agreed to produce the film along with Lijo and Chemban.

  • The project was named Thamaasha in which Sameer Thahir worked as a cinematographer.

  • His film Thamaasha was released on 19 June 2019 and received critical acclaim. Vinay Forrt and Chinnu Chandni played the lead roles in the film.

  • His second film as director, Bheemante Vazhi, was released in December 2021. It was written and produced by Chemban Vinod Jose.  Kunchacko Boban appeared in a lead role in the film. The film was a moderate success at the box office and earned good reviews.

  • In August 2022, Ashraf Hamza worked as a co-writer in the film Thallumaala with Muhsin Parari. After its release, it became one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films.

  • His third film as a director was Sulaikha Manzil, which was released in 2023. Lukman Avaran and Anarkali Marikar played the lead roles in the film.

  • Ashraf Hamza introduced Muhsin Parari as a lyricist in the Malayalam film industry.
