Some Lesser Known Facts About Manojit Mishra

After completing his high school, he enrolled at South Calcutta Law College, Kolkata in 2012 and was allegedly involved in a stabbing incident in 2013, leading to his expulsion in 2014.

In 2017, he was re-admitted to the college and was accused of vandalising the principal’s office, and in 2019, he received a post in the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP).

In 2021, he was removed from his TMCP post following complaints of bad behaviour and eventually graduated in 2022.

In 2023, he returned to the college as a clerk and later as a contractual staffer for Rs 500 per day, and in October 2023, a student accused him of molestation during a college event.

In April 2025, Mishra was arrested for assaulting a police officer and vandalising a police vehicle after an argument near an ATM.

On 25 June 2025, a 24-year-old student alleged that Mishra and his associates assaulted her inside the college after proposing marriage, locking the gates, and taking her to a room near the union office.

She reported being beaten with a hockey stick, denied medical help, threatened with leaked footage, and was allegedly raped while being recorded by the accused.

An FIR was lodged on 26 June 2025 at 4:45 pm, leading to the arrests of Mishra and Zaib Ahmed from Talbagan crossing around 7:20 pm, and Pramit Mukherjee from his residence later that night.

All three accused were presented before the Alipore Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate and remanded to police custody until 1 July 2025, and security guard Pinaki Banerjee was later arrested and remanded separately.

By 27 June 2025, police confirmed that CCTV footage, call records, and medical reports supported the victim’s allegations.

On 30 June 2025, forensic teams recovered torn hair strands, clothing from the accused matching CCTV visuals, a hockey stick, and blood-stained furniture from the scene. Mishra’s phone, containing alleged video evidence, was also seized.

On 1 July 2025, the college suspended Mishra and banned the other two accused from admissions, and the committee decided to recover all wages paid to him.

That day, student protests took place from the college to Gariahat, and the college offered to fund the survivor’s medical care and increase surveillance.

Mishra’s lawyer, Raju Ganguly, claimed a scratch on his client was a ‘love bite’ and requested a forensic analysis of the survivor’s phone after a medico-legal report found marks indicating resistance.

Faculty and students reported Mishra’s history of threats, harassment, and digital abuse, with prior complaints allegedly ignored due to his influence and political backing.

Known on campus as ‘MM’ or ‘Mango,’ he allegedly controlled student groups, shared vulgar content, and maintained dominance even after expulsion and re-admission.
