• Simran Bala was born and raised in Nowshera town of Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir, a border area affected by cross-border shelling.

• She developed an early interest in joining uniformed forces, influenced by family members, including grandparents, who served in the armed forces.

• She completed her schooling up to Class 10 in Nowshera before moving out of her hometown for further education.

• After Class 10, she shifted to Jammu city to pursue her higher secondary education. She studied Class 11 and Class 12 at MHACS Nagbani School in Jammu.

• After completing higher secondary education, she enrolled at Women’s College, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, for graduation.

• She lived alone in a rented room on Canal Road, Jammu, for more than eight years while continuing her studies.

• During her final semester of graduation, she began preparing for the UPSC Central Armed Police Forces examination.

• She prepared for the UPSC CAPF examination alongside her college studies without taking a break from academics.

• She appeared for the UPSC CAPF examination and cleared it successfully in her very first attempt. The Union Public Service Commission announced the CAPF Final Result 2021 on 2 June 2023.

• A total of 151 candidates cleared the UPSC CAPF examination as per the final result announced by UPSC. Simran Bala secured an All India Rank of 82 among the 151 successful candidates.

• She was the only woman candidate from Jammu and Kashmir to qualify for the UPSC CAPF examination in 2023.

• After clearing the examination, she was appointed as an Assistant Commandant in the Central Armed Police Forces.

• She stated that her motivation to join CAPF came from witnessing cross-border firing in her border region. She acknowledged support from her parents, teachers, and others during her long preparation journey.

• She credited hard work, perseverance, consistency, and the use of internet resources for clearing the examination.

• In January 2026, Simran Bala was serving as an Assistant Commandant in the Central Reserve Police Force. At the age of 26, she became the first woman officer from her district to join the CRPF.

• She was selected to lead an all-male CRPF contingent during the 76th Republic Day parade. She became the first woman officer to command over 140 male CRPF personnel in the Republic Day ceremonial march.
