Some Lesser Known Facts About Akshita Dhankar

• During her studies at Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khasla College in Delhi, Akshita Dhankar joined the National Cadet Corps (NCC).

• After that, she was promoted to the rank of Cadet Sergeant Major (CSM) and became known for her leadership and discipline skills.

• Akshita Dhankar then decided to fulfil her dream of joining the Indian Air Force (IAF).

• She then cleared the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) and received a recommendation from the Air Force Selection Board (AFSB), Mysore.

• On 17 June 2023, she was commissioned as a Flying Officer in the Administration branch (M AFCAT W-551 entry). She received the service number 38704 ADM as part of the 211 Short Service Commission (Women) Ground Duty Course.

• After three years, she was promoted to the position of a Flight Lieutenant.

• In January 2026, she made headlines when she unfurled the national flag alongside Indian President Droupadi Murmu at Kartavya Path during the 77th Republic Day parade organised in New Delhi, India.

• She made history by becoming a part of one of India’s highest ceremonial honours.

• Reportedly, she practised for the event for more than two months.

• This moment showed Dhankar’s personal success. It also highlighted India’s focus on women in uniform. During a media conversation, she shared her feelings while being a part of the Indian Armed Forces. She said,
  

  I feel honoured. We’ve been practising for more than two months. The practice has been rigorous. We’ve been waking up early. We’ve been going home late. I think in the end, it is all worth it. I feel this is what the armed forces stand for- courage, unity, and determination.”

• Reportedly, her father inspired her to join the Indian Air Force. He is a military veteran who took part in the Republic Day parade years ago.

• During a media interview, she shared her childhood dream to serve the nation. She said,
  

  My father had participated in the parade, and that left a lasting impression on me. I always wanted to serve the nation and wear the uniform.”
