- Rashmi Leela was born and raised in Thyagarajanagar, Bengaluru.
- She was predominantly known for her work in Kannada TV series. Some of her popular TV series are Papa Pandu, Telugu Janaki, Kavaludaari, Kannadi, Kavyanjali, Bandhavya, Ananda Sagar, Hoogli Bid Sir, Godhuli, and Gagana Kusuma.
- In Kannada TV, Leela was recognised for natural expressions, soft dialogue delivery, and relatable characters. In the films and TV series she was shown in roles of daughters, wives, and women facing personal struggles, which made her popular among home audiences.
- In 2019, Rashmi was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and was taking treatment for it. The condition later affected her lungs and developed pulmonary fibrosis, a disease in which lung tissue becomes scarred and damaged, making breathing difficult.
- For around seven years, she had been receiving treatment for her lung condition and had been placed on ventilator support multiple times.
- In 2025, her condition worsened, and she was completely kept on oxygen support. Doctors eventually advised that a lung transplant was the only option.
- In August 2025, she requested financial support for her lung transplant that would cost around 19 lakhs through her social media post. Many colleagues of hers from the Kannada industry and many other people helped her financially.
- After many challenges, the surgery was performed in January 2026.
- Despite the surgery and ongoing medical care, her health continued to worsen.
- On 16 February 2026, Rashmi passed away in a private hospital in Bengaluru. The news of her death was shared by her husband on his social media account.
