Some Lesser Known Facts About Vivek Bhagat
- Captain Vivek Vikas Bhagat was a commercial pilot from Luti village in Latehar district, Jharkhand. He also had family roots in Panduka village and later resided in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
- He was the only son of Dev Sahay Bhagat, an executive engineer in the Rural Works Department. His younger sister, Anu Abhilasha Bhagat, is a medical student.
- He completed his early schooling at St Thomas School in Ranchi. He pursued his senior secondary education at Chaitanya Academy in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
- He enrolled in pilot training after completing his school education. He completed his initial flying training in Kanpur.
- He later underwent advanced commercial pilot training in South Africa. He joined Redbird Airways Pvt Ltd in 2022 as a First Officer.
- The company operated chartered flights and air ambulance services. He accumulated operational flying hours on medical evacuation routes.
- He was promoted to the rank of Captain approximately six months before February 2026. On 24 February 2026, he was commanding a Beechcraft C90 aircraft, registration VT-AJV.
- The aircraft departed from Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi, at 7:11 pm for New Delhi. The flight was transporting a patient and six other individuals, making seven people on board.
- The crew included Captain Vivek Vikas Bhagat and Captain Savrajdeep Singh. Other individuals on board were Sanjay Kumar, Dr Vikas Kumar Gupta, Sachin Kumar Mishra, Archana Devi and Dhuru Kumar.
- After takeoff, the aircraft established contact with Kolkata air traffic control. At approximately 7:34 pm, the aircraft lost communication and radar contact.
- The aircraft crashed near Kasariya Panchayat in Simaria block of Chatra district, Jharkhand. All seven people on board were confirmed dead by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
- The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. He had applied for leave until 1 March 2026 to attend a friend’s engagement ceremony on 27 February.
- He was expected to land in Delhi at approximately 9:00 pm on the night of the accident.
