Ravi Mittal belongs to a renowned physician family in Chandpur, Bijnor.

For his higher secondary studies, Ravi shifted from his hometown, Chandpur, to New Delhi.

After completing his higher secondary, he completed his MBBS degree from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi.

In the final year of his medical course, he appeared for the Union Public Service Commission exam. He cleared the exam in his first attempt. He secured the 61st All India Rank without coaching.

During the early days of his civil service, Ravi served in the Land Revenue Department, Rajnandgaon.

In 2018, Ravi completed his master’s degree in Public Management from Jawaharlal Nehru University.

On 19 March 2026, Mittal was appointed as Deputy Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). Mittal’s appointment was made after the approval by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). In his appointment letter, it was mentioned that,

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shri Ravi Mittal, IAS (CG:2016), presently in the cadre, as Deputy Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office for a tenure of four years from the date of assumption of charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”
