  •  In 1972, he began his career with the Ministry of Finance and Petroleum of the State of Qatar.
  • From 1973 to 1986, held the post of the Head of International and Public Relations at the ministry.
  • From 1986 to 1989, he served as the Director of the Office of the Ministry of Interior and from 1989 to 1992 the Acting Minister of the Ministry of Finance and Petroleum.
  • In 1992, he got appointed as the Minister of Energy & Industry and Charmain and Managing Director of Qatar Petroleum.
  • In 1993, he was named OPEC president and a member of the OPEC’s Quota Compliance Committee.
  • In 2003, he was appointed as the second Deputy Prime Minister and then promoted as the Deputy Prime Minister in 2007.
  • In 2006, he was elected as the Chairman of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and the President of the 18th Session of UNFCCC Climate Change Conference which was held in 2012.
