- Ritabrata Banerjee was born and raised in Kolkata, West Bengal.
- Ritabrata started his political journey since his college days, where he was member of Students’ Federation of India (SFI), the student wing of Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI) (M).
- While studying at Asutosh College, her served as the General Secretary of the students’ union.
- With his active full-time political activism, he rose to become the All India General Secretary of SFI in 2008, and emerged as one of the prominent leaders of the state.
- In April 2013, Banerjee was accused for harassment of former Finance minister of West Bengal Amit Mitra in New Delhi during a protest outside the Planning Commission office in New Delhi.
- He was arrested along with five other CPI(M)-SFI activists in connection with the incident after video footage was examined by the police. However, they were granted bail.
- In 2014, at the age of 34, Banerjee was elected to the Rajya Sabha member and became one of the youngest CPI(M) MPs.
