Some Lesser Known Facts About Saransh Jain

• Saransh Jain was born in a family where he was able to be a cricket player.

• His father Subodh Jain played nine matches for Madhya Pradesh in the 1980s as an offspinner but didn’t have an opportunity to play for India.

• Subodh wanted his son to carry out this dream which he failed to achieve.

• On 21 December 2014, Saransh made his first class debut for Madhya Pradesh. He made his List A debut for the same team on 25 February 2017.

• Soon after his 2014 debut, his father was diagnosed with cancer. The illness slowed things down for a while and cricket took a back seat.

• Subsequently his father had surgery, and he was unable to speak for a while. In 2014, Subodh wrote a note to his son, telling him he was okay. He also wrote that it would be better if Saransh played well.

• Saransh has the photo of that note in his phone, and checks it whenever becomes demotivated.

• Since then, his father has been okay. Saransh only played 8 first class matches between 2014-2022.

• His fortunes changed when Chandrakant Pandit replaced the head coach of Madhya Pradesh and gave him more time in the side. After that, he steadily went up.

• He has posted a double of 300 runs and 25 wickets in three of his past four Ranji seasons (2022-23, 2023-24, 2025-26) and only Shams Mulani of Mumbai has managed the same in the same span.

• He had his best season in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26. He found himself 518 runs to average at 57.55 runs per innings and 30 wickets to an average of 20.43.

• He followed it up with two half centuries in the 2025 Duleep Trophy, and picked up 16 wickets in two Central Zone matches just before.

• In March 2026, Saransh attended an offspinners camp in Bengaluru, where he got training from Harbhajan Singh.

• Singh urged him to do more on the tactical aspect of the bowling such as angles and variations.

• In addition to his offspin, Saransh has also been at work around the wicket to the right hand batsmen and he has recently learnt to play the legbreak, but hasn’t yet used it in red ball cricket.

• Then in July 2026, he went on the India A tour of Sri Lanka. He then scored 70 not out to take six wickets in the second four day game against Sri Lanka A in Galle.

• Just in time for this performance. Washington Sundar was ruled out of the first Test against Sri Lanka with a hamstring injury and with a number of left handers in the Sri Lanka squad, the selectors wanted a spinner to join the Test team.

• Saransh got the nod for the two match Test series in Sri Lanka starting on 15 August 2026.

• BCCI announced the squad earlier than usual, at 9 am on 28 July 2026. When the announcement was made Saransh was at a temple.

• Saransh was the third player after Murali Vijay and Mohammad Shami to make the national team without an IPL contract at the age of 33.

• If he makes his debut for India in Sri Lanka, he will be the third Indian to make debut after 33 years since 1998 after Robin Singh and Rakesh Shukla.

• His mother has a little tradition associated with his bowling. She prepares malpua for him after he had taken four wickets in a match, which she does even today.
