Some Lesser Known Facts About Sujeet Kalkal
- As a child, Sujeet Kalkal started early training in wrestling at his village.
- He was not trained under a formal coach. He was trained at an old village akhada.
- In his early years, he often lost at district and state competitions.
- His father, Dayanand Kalkal, encouraged him to continue wrestling. Dayanand had competed at the national level and wanted his son to follow the same path.
- During his school days, he was a bright student in his studies and tried to balance school with wrestling.
- He continued training in his village until 2020.
- In 2021, Sujeet Kalkal moved to Sonipat, Haryana, where he improved his technique and made his wrestling more mature.
- In 2022, he was selected to the Under-20 team of India and competed at the U20 World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria. He lost in the semi-final but won the bronze medal in the 65 kg category. It was his first medal at an international competition.
- That same year, he won a gold medal at the U20 Asian Championships in Manama, Bahrain.
- After that, Sujeet Kalkal won a gold medal at the U23 Asian Championships in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
