- When he was 2 years old, his father, a state government employee was transferred to Mumbai.
- While growing up, he used to participate in various acting and dancing competitions organised at the Ganpati festival in his locality. From there, he developed an interest in acting and dancing.
- While he was studying in college, he participated in various stage plays. He then decided to pursue his career as an actor.
- Aakash then worked as a professional theatre artist for around eight years.
- His first income was Rs 1200 for working as a background dancer in a theatre play. He gave the money to his mother.

- One day, at his college the Indian filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani auditioned a few students for a role in his Hindi film ‘3 Idiots.’ Aakash also auditioned for the role of millimetre. However, he was not selected for that role but for some other role.
