Some Lesser Known Facts About Abhinav Manohar
- Abhinav was born and raised in a middle-class family in Bengaluru.
- Abhinav started playing cricket at the age of 3. His father gifted him a bat and a leather bowl when he was 6 years old which sparked his interest in cricket even more.
- Before cricket, Abhinav used to play tennis. He left it to continue his cricket journey.
- Abhinav’s father used to run a footwear shop in Bengaluru but due to financial loss, he had to close his footwear shop, and then a couple of more businesses.
- Abhinav was not much interested in cricket during his childhood days but later his passion for the game increased.
- Abhinav’s childhood coach, Irfan Sait, used to run a garment shop next to his father’s shop. His father, who was a good friend, urged him to take his son under his wing and start his cricket training. In an interview, his coach said,
His father asked me once to enrol him in my academy. I was a bit reluctant because he was never interested in cricket. I said I will give it a shot”
- Abhinav’s first cousin Sharanya Sadarangani also plays professional cricket and represents the German national team after having played for Karnataka and in England.
- According to Abhinav’s coach, the turning point in his cricketing career came in 2006. During a practice match against the Hyderabad state U-14 team, a ball hit him in the forehead, and he got badly injured. After that, he was taken to the hospital. His coach felt he would not come back, but he came back the next day and scored a century in the match.

- Abhinav made his Twenty20 debut on 16 November 2021, for Karnataka in the preliminary quarter-finals of the 2021–22 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Saurashtra; he scored 70 runs off 46 balls in the match.
- Abhinav’s List-A debut came on 19 December 2021 for Karnataka, in the preliminary quarter-finals of the 2021–22 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
- The Gujarat Titans bought Abhinav for Rs. 2.6 crore to play for them in the IPL 2022. He scored 86 runs in 4 matches in the IPL that season.
- On 28 March 2022, Abhinav made his IPL debut for the Gujarat Titans against Lucknow Super Giants.
- In November 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad bought Abhinav for Rs. 3.20 crore in the auction for the 2025 Indian Premier League tournament. His base price was Rs. 30 lakhs in the auction.
