Some Lesser Known Facts About Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary
- Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary is a three-star General in the Pakistan Army. He has been serving as the 22nd Director General of ISPR since 6 December 2022.
- He belongs to the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (EME) corps and was the first person to be appointed as the DG of Pakistan’s ISPR.
- He was born and raised in a middle-class family in the Thal desert area of Punjab, Pakistan. In an interview, he mentioned that as the Thal desert is a dry and tough region, he and his family faced many challenges.
- He was an average student in his academics and passed his matriculation in the second division. But he worked hard and got admission in the Pakistan Military Academy, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.
- In an interview, he mentioned that during his training, his fellow cadets called him “Camel of the Desert”, as he was physically very strong and never complained about the tough training of military.
- In 2001, Ahmed’s father, Sultan Bashir Mahmood, was arrested for his alleged links with Osama bin Laden and the Taliban. Bashir Mahmood was also black listed by the UN Security Council’s al-Qaida Sanctions Committee for providing nuclear technology to Osama bin Laden.
