Some Lesser Known Facts About Anna Sawai
- Anna Sawai was born in New Zealand and moved to Yokohama, Japan, at the age of 10. Sawai’s mother was a piano teacher who taught her singing and her father worked for an electronics company.
- She began practising singing and playing the Piano at the age of 3. According to her, she moved to a lot of places including Hong Kong and the Philippines while growing up due to her father’s job.
- At the age of 11, she got her first role as Annie in the 2004 Nippon TV production of Annie.
- In 2006, she auditioned for the Japanese entertainment conglomerate Avex Inc. After the audition, she received training at their in-house music and dance boot camp.
- During her high school, she continued her vocal and dancing lessons.
- In March 2012, while pursuing her college degree, she signed a contract with the Avex Trax record label company. She performed the United States national anthem at the Tokyo Dome as a part of the inauguration ceremony of the 2012 Major League Baseball season.
- In April 2012, Sawai joined the girl group Avex Rising Angels (ARA). In November of the same year, ARA released the music video for their debut track “Make My Dreams Come True”.
