  • Anna Sawai was born in New Zealand and moved to Yokohama, Japan, at the age of 10. Sawai’s mother was a piano teacher who taught her singing and her father worked for an electronics company.
  • She began practising singing and playing the Piano at the age of 3. According to her, she moved to a lot of places including Hong Kong and the Philippines while growing up due to her father’s job.

  • At the age of 11, she got her first role as Annie in the 2004 Nippon TV production of Annie.
  • In 2006, she auditioned for the Japanese entertainment conglomerate Avex Inc. After the audition, she received training at their in-house music and dance boot camp.
  • During her high school, she continued her vocal and dancing lessons.
  • In March 2012, while pursuing her college degree, she signed a contract with the Avex Trax record label company. She performed the United States national anthem at the Tokyo Dome as a part of the inauguration ceremony of the 2012 Major League Baseball season.

  • In April 2012, Sawai joined the girl group Avex Rising Angels (ARA). In November of the same year, ARA released the music video for their debut track “Make My Dreams Come True”.
  • Avex Rising Angels split up in early 2013.
  • In 2013, she joined the Japanese music girl group named Faky. Faky released their debut track “Better Without You” on July 29, 2013. She became famous in Japan for being one of the lead vocalists of Faky.

  • She appeared as the lead actress in Elliott Yamin’s music video for his song “Katy” while working as a member of Faky in October 2015. Later, she also appeared as a featured artist in Yamato’s debut single “Shining.”

  • In 2017, she appeared in the voice role of Angélique Noir in the 2017 fashion simulation video game Style Savvy: Styling Star. She also performed the main theme song for the game “Girls Be Ambitious.”
  • In 2018, she returned to acting with the Japanese drama series Colors. In the series, she appeared in only two episodes as Train station accuser.
  • Later, the same year, she appeared in the dance art project by Takenaka Fuuko titled The Book.

  • In the same year, she joined the cast of the American action film F9: The Fast Saga. She played the role of a martial arts warrior Elle in the film. The film was shot in 2019 and was released in 2021.
