ControversyIn January 2017, he was removed as the President of the BCCI by the Supreme Court of India. Supreme Court appointed Lodha Committee stated that Government officials should not be a member of the administrative body of any sports. Anurag Thakur resisted this decision a lot and even refused to agree to the Supreme Court order. The Supreme Court ordered Anurag Thakur to apologize or he would be arrested. Anurag Thakur then issued an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court and stepped down.
