• Bijou Thaangjam grew up in a family of carpenters, handloom weavers, and handicraft artisans in Imphal.

• When he was 3 years old, he played the role of an 80-year-old man in a play. The praise and applause he received for his performance made him interested in acting.

• In 2004, Bijou moved to Bengaluru from Manipur to pursue a degree in Biotechnology. He decided to become an actor and take performing arts seriously when he saw a play in his 2nd year; Bijou earned the gold medal for his Biotechnology degree.

• In 2008, he shifted from Bengaluru to Pune, where he attended various acting workshops and performed in many theatrical productions. He once even applied to the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, but could not get selected.

• Bijou once hosted a housewarming party, where a guest unexpectedly showed up and turned out to be a casting director for the reality show ‘MasterChef India.’ The casting director liked Bijou’s cooking and signed him up as a contestant for ‘MasterChef India 2’ without asking him.

• In 2012, he moved from Pune to Mumbai to try his luck in the entertainment industry.

• His first project as an actor was with the American actor and musician Jared Leto. It was produced by MTV Asia and released in over 9 countries.

• He has appeared in some television series such as MTV India’s ‘Traffic’ (2014) and Colors TV’s ‘Code Red’ (2015).

• In 2019, he played the role of a Chinese Official in the film ‘Made in China.’

• Bijou owns a production company named Cicada Film Production under which he has co-produced short films like ‘Lembi Leima’ (2022) (Meitei) and ‘Ouraiyu’ (2023). He not only co-produced these short films but also acted in them.

• He once worked as a salesman and babysitter.

• Bijou was once diagnosed with anxiety disorder, which led to problems like panic attacks, numbness, insomnia, and suicidal thoughts. He suffered from these issues after being deeply affected by the loss of his grandmother. He, however, recovered after taking therapy and counselling.

• He is proficient in English and Punjabi languages.

• Bijou consumes alcohol occasionally.

• Bijou founded Thangjam Family & Co. and MadhabiGi, a handmade soap manufacturing company, after being inspired by his grandmother. She taught him how local herbs and medicinal plants could be used to make items like shampoo and soap.
