• Bishworjit Singh Konthoujam hails from Imphal, Manipur.

• He always had a special love for cricket from his childhood.

• His first playground was a public field close to his home, to where he joined the older boys early on in life.

• During school vacations, he took part in tennis ball cricket tournaments regularly.

• He had a quick look on the game in the field of Oriental College.

• At the time cricket was not a particularly popular sport and playing with a leather ball was uncommon.

• Cricket was his all-consuming passion when he was a young boy.

• He and his friends played the game whilst waiting for a school bus.

• Running straight to the ground was more important than heading home after school hours.

• Boxing was of equal interest to him at this time.

• His parents did not have much faith in cricket as a team game, rather they believed in individual sports such as boxing.

• His sister was also an athlete and motivated him to concentrate on boxing.

• He earned state and national medals in boxing at the Sports Authority of India with Coach Oja Ibomcha.

• He went on to represent at the National Games, but never for cricket.

• He won a gold medal in boxing around 2014/15 in Arunachal Pradesh.

• Soon after, he suffered a shoulder injury and had to rest.

• When he was spotted by Leishangthem Ronen (Da Mocha) who was then the secretary of the Cricket Association of Manipur, he was encouraged to take up the game of cricket seriously.

• Ronen converted him to a bowler. From there on, he turned his attention to cricket.

• A big turning point occurred in 2018 and 2019. BCCI reinstated the affiliation of the Manipur Cricket Association, that paved the way for Manipur players to take part in the top domestic events such as the Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.

• He made his List A debut for Manipur against Puducherry in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on 19 September 2018 and has seven appearances to his name for the state, putting him on top of the league table for top wicket takers with nine dismissals.

• The first class debut came into the fray against Sikkim in the Ranji Trophy on 1 November 2018.

• During that season, he picked up 30 wickets in eight matches and is the highest wicket taker for Manipur.

• He made his 20-over debut for the state in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on 21 February 2019.

• Several chances came his way in the 2020 and 2021 season as well, but COVID 19 was rampant at the time.

• He felt that it was not the time and missed almost two seasons of cricket.

• After the contests began, foreign clubs and agents began to take notice of players who were doing well in the Ranji Trophy, Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.

• Detailed records of runs scored, wickets taken and overall performance were maintained in these clubs.

• They closely watched the players, and approached those who were suitable to their needs and offered terms of enrolment in their clubs.

• He was the captain of Manipur’s bowling team in the Ranji Trophy for 2023 and 2024, as well as the captain of the Vijay Hazare Trophy team for 2024.

• He took 42 wickets in both Test and ODI cricket during the 2024-25 season.

• In 2025, he was appointed to England and Wales Cricket Board affiliated Tynemouth Cricket Club in England.

• This was his first time to be in an English club, as a cricketer from Manipur. The English season is from April to September annually.

• Former Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh, shared the feat on his social media handle and hailed it as a proud moment for Manipur cricket.

• The same year he was also the first player from the Northeast zone to reach 50 wickets in List A cricket.

• He returned to the limelight in August 2026 when he played in the Duleep Trophy quarter final between the North East Zone and East Zone in Bengaluru.

• He was playing his first ever Duleep Trophy match and he hit the East Zone’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi out for eight runs off six balls.

• Suryavanshi, along with Abhimanyu Easwaran, made a single boundary in his two overalls, but was caught for two in the next one.

• The first hit went through mid wicket after a delivery angled out and the second was hit through cover.

• Suryavanshi was dismissed while trying to get a cut on the ball as it came up through point, which went straight to the fielder at gully.
