Considering his ability to take bowlers to the cleaners with his range hitting prowess, he has been procured by multiple franchises including Delhi Daredevils & Sunrisers Hyderabad since 2017; however, he is yet to get an opportunity to feature in a match of the coveted tournament.
  • Shashank started playing cricket when he was 8 years old. He took his initial cricket coaching in Madhya Pradesh till the age of 17 years, and later, in 2008, moved to Mumbai, seeking better cricket coaching and opportunities.
  • The greatest challenge for the 17-year-old young Shashank Singh after coming to Mumbai was to find a suitable cricket academy from where he could pursue his cricket career. He joined the Vidya Paradkar Cricket Academy in 2008 and started coaching there under the adept of Vidya Paradkar, a veteran cricket coach who has been training young cricketers in Mumbai for more than three decades. Shashank attributes all his success to Vidya Paradkar. While talking about Paradkar’s contribution to his cricket career in an interview with Sportskeeda, Shashank said,

Vidya Sir really helped me out as I practiced under his guidance; without him, it wouldn’t have been possible. From my stance to my specific shots, he is the one I share all my technical problems with”

  • In an interview with Read Scoops, a sports and entertainment news portal, Shashank was asked about what keeps him hustling for his dream (to play for international cricket for India), even after knowing there are minimal chances for players to make a place in the Indian cricket team considering the extent of competition in the sport. Responding to the question, he told,

Competitive cricket in India involves a lot of practice and patience, as sometimes, you may not get selected even after playing well. All you have to do is keep working hard, keep believing and wait for your time, which will come eventually. I’ve been more motivated and mentally tough. Someday, I’ll get my chance for sure.”

  • Shashank, a fitness enthusiast, draws inspiration from the Indian captain Virat Kohli to stay fit. While talking about the Indian captain, Shashank said,

Not only me, Virat Kohli inspires everyone in the world. He is playing all three formats and doing great. You won’t see a difference in him in the first Test of the series and the last Test. The commitment level is the same – that is fitness. He is the best in the world”

After the auction, which was held at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, reports of some confusion emerged. It was suggested that Punjab Kings picked “wrong” Shashank. The team, however, later took to social media to clarify that Shashank was always on their list. The confusion arose due to the presence of two players with the same name on the list.

  • On 4 April 2024, during a match against the Gujarat Titans, Shashank’s unbeaten 61 off just 29 balls lead the Punjab Kings to win the match.
