Some Lesser Known Facts About Chandranath Rath

• Chandranath Rath was born and raised in Chandipur, district Purba Medinipur, West Bengal.

• After completing his schooling at Rahara Ramakrishna Mission, Rath joined Indian Air Force and served for more than two decades at Indian Air Force.

• He then took voluntary retirement, and joined corporate sector for some time.

• According to some sources, Rath like Suvendu Adhikari, earlier joined All India Trinamool Congress during its expansion in Purba Medinipur, West Bengal.

• His mother, Hasi Ruth had reportedly held a post in local panchayat body during the TMC years before shifting allegiance to the BJP along with Adhikari in 2020.

• In 2019, Chandranath Rath joined Suvendu Adhikari team, when he was still a minister in the Mamata Banerjee government.

• In 2020, while being associated with Adhikari, Rath handled ministerial responsibilities of Adhikari and also handled the same role when he switched to Bharatiya Janata Party.

• He was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he was declared dead. Rath suffered bullet injuries to the chest and abdomen. His driver sustained serious injuries.

• In an interview, a senior police officer said,

It’s a planned murder. Because after he shot Rath, the killer waited for him to die.”

• Adhikari described death of Chandranath Rath as a “cold-blooded murder.” He said,

This is a cold-blooded murder. he killing was the result of 15 years of TMC’s “Mahajungle raj” in the state. The DGP has assured that they will probe the matter thoroughly.”

• The West Bengal Police has started the investigation. The CCTV fooftage form nearby areas was being examined. The police also seized a suspicious vehicle with a fake number plate.
