• In 1964, Ganesan joined the Indian Air Force in a civilian post.

• Once, in a media discussion, he recalled a memory from his time as an IAF official. He mentioned,
  

  When the war with Pakistan happened, I was in the Air Force. At that time, my duty was from 6 pm to 6 am in Jammu and Kashmir. Those were the days that made me feel like I had seen everything in life.”

• During his time in the IAF, he was part of the Delhi-based theatre group, Dakshina Bharata Nataka Sabha.

• In 1974, Ganesan left the IAF to pursue a career in the film industry.

• He then joined Kathadi Ramamurthi’s theatre company.

• While working with this theatre company, Ganesan received a big break by playing the role of Kuselar in the play ‘Dowry Kalyana Vaibhogame.’
