• After three years of her roka with the Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila, Gurmail got married to Chamkila.

• At the time of their marriage, Chamkila was not a singer and was working at a Hosiery factory in Ludhiana.

• She once shared that she never had an objection from Chamkila’s second marriage to Amarjot Kaur. Gurmail and Amarjot used to spend time together along with Chamkila.

• Chamkila wanted to settle Gurmail and their daughters in Canada.

• Chamkila used to call Gurmail’s father Chacha.

• Gurmail once shared that she used to receive many letters at her home. Since she could not read them, she didn’t know what the letters were about. Later, she came to know that those were threat letters.

• She had a meal together with Chamkila and Amarjot at her home only two days before Chamkila and Amarjot were shot dead on 8 March 1988.

• Gurmail said that Amarjot’s family did not claim her (Amarjot’s) body for the last rites and Gurmail’s family members did Amarjot’s and Chamkila’s last rites together.
