• Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra joined the National Defence Academy at Khadakwasla as a cadet on 1 December 1985, with the 69th NDA course.

• He passed out from the Air Force Academy at Dundigal and got his commission into the flying branch of the Indian Air Force as a pilot, in the fighter stream, on 6 December 1986.

• Over a career that ran past 38 years, he clocked more than 3000 hours of flying and handled more than 18 types of fighter and transport aircraft along with helicopters.

• He trained as a Fighter Combat Leader and as a Test Pilot during his service.

• Mishra completed the 44th Flying Instructors Course as a Squadron Leader on 1 May 1995.

• He trained at the Air Force Test Pilots’ School in Bangalore and later served there as Senior Test Flying Instructor.

• As a Squadron Leader, he formed part of the team that got laser guided bombs operational on the Mirage 2000 aircraft right at the start of the Kargil war.

• These bombs went on to hit Tiger Hill and Muntho Dhalo during Operation Safed Sagar.

• He also studied at the Air Command and Staff College, Air University, in Montgomery, Alabama, in the United States of America, on a staff course.

• He got his promotion to Group Captain on 2 March 2009.

• During this period, he served as Director, Projects, for Aircraft Upgrades, where his involvement led to the timely completion of several major projects, including the Su 30 MKI Block IV upgrade and the BrahMos missile integration project.

• He also served as Chief Operations Officer of a Su 30 MKI operating airbase, where his efforts brought a marked improvement in the operational environment of the base, along with gains in flight safety and the volume of flying.

• He went on to serve as Director, Operational Planning and Assessment, at Air Headquarters in Delhi.

• In this role, he worked on revising operational philosophies and strategies, streamlining operational procedures and updating the Air Force’s operational directives.

• He also worked on national and international exercises, and on sensitive inter services operational plans.

• He also worked as Chief Test Pilot at the Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment in Bangalore, from 1 May 2013 to 14 December 2013.

• In June 2010, while serving as Director, Operational Planning and Assessment, he led the Indian Air Force contingent for the multinational air exercise Garuda IV, held in France.

• Through 2018, he attended a staff course at the Royal College of Defence Studies in London.

• He also held the post of Principal Director, Air Staff Requirements, from 18 July 2018, along with the appointment of Commodore Commandant of the Hawk Operational Training Squadron B.

• He served as Air Commodore, Air Staff Requirements, at Air Headquarters in Delhi, from 1 August 2018 to 30 June 2019.

• Mishra reached the rank of Air Marshal on 1 January 2023.

• From 1 December 2022 to 31 December 2024, he served as Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff, Doctrine, Organisation and Training, at the Integrated Defence Staff in New Delhi.

• He also served as Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff, Operations, during this period of his career.

• On 1 January 2025, Mishra took over as Air Officer Commanding in Chief, Western Air Command, based in Delhi. he led the command during Operation Sindoor.

• Mishra held this post till 30 April 2026, when he retired from service on superannuation.

• After his retirement, the Ram Temple Trust in Ayodhya picked Mishra as its first chief executive officer.

• The trust had received 5,585 applications for the post, and a search panel headed by retired judge Pramod Kohli shortlisted the candidates.

• The trust looked at institutional leadership, management expertise, integrity and vision while picking the candidate for a post of national and international significance, and Mishra met all these requirements.
