  • Dhiraj Singh Thakur is an Indian jurist, who is the senior-most judge at the Bombay High Court. On 5 July 2023, Thakur’s nomination for the position of Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium.
  • Dhiraj Singh Thakur’s father, Devi Das Thakur, a prominent advocate and former governor of Assam, also held a position as a judge in the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir.
  • On 18 October 1989, Dhiraj Singh Thakur registered as an advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi.
  • Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur initiated his legal practice at the Delhi High Court in 1989 before transferring his enrollment to the Bar Council of Jammu & Kashmir in November 2010.

  • On February 9, 2023, the Supreme Court Collegium put forth a recommendation to appoint Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur as the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court.

  • Later, on July 5, 2023, the Supreme Court Collegium, consisting of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, and Justice Sanjiv Khanna, proposed the appointment of Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh. The High Court of Andhra Pradesh was established through a Presidential order on January 1, 2019, following its bifurcation. The recommendation also said that,
