Some Lesser Known Facts About Kamlesh Paswan

• Kamlesh Paswan grew up in a family with a political background.

• His father, Om Prakash Paswan, was elected as MLA from the Maniram assembly constituency in 1989, 1991, and 1993.

• Om Prakash was killed in 1996 while addressing a public function. At that time, Kamlesh Paswan was studying at a college in Gorakhpur, and he was not old enough to contest an election.

• His mother, Subhawati Devi, became the first woman MLA from Bansgaon constituency in Uttar Pradesh on the ticket of Samajwadi Party (SP) in 1996.

• After his father’s assassination, his uncle Chandresh Paswan was elected as MLA from the Maniram constituency on the ticket of the Samajwadi Party.

• Kamlesh Paswan served as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from the Maniram constituency representing the Samajwadi Party from 2002 to 2007.

Reportedly, he had requested the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police to provide him with security cover. Paswan stated in a media conversation that he requested security from the then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav.

• Kamlesh Paswan served as a Member of the Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes from 28 July 2016 to 25 May 2019. During the same period, he served as a Member of the Consultative Committee in the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
