He was born to a modest family in Sadiquabad, Anantnag.

Growing up, he developed an interest in football.

His interest in football earned him the nickname- David Beckham of Sadiquabad.

His friends say that Anantnag won its first inter-district football match because of him.

Over the past years, Majid had mobilised volunteers for blood donation drives and worked tirelessly for a local charitable organisation.

On 9 November 2017, he went missing from his home in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district to join the Lashkar-e-Taiba.

According to sources, after joining Lashkar-e-Taiba, Majid earned a new code name- Abu Ishmayel.

After hearing the news of his departure, Majid’s father, Irshad Khan, suffered a cardiac arrest. However, later he was discharged from the hospital.

According to his friends and relatives, the reason behind Majid’s decision to join the militant organisation seems to have come with the killing of his close friend, Yawar Nisar, who had joined the militant organisation only days before he was killed in August 2017.

Majid was disturbed because of Yawar’s death and perhaps, the incident was the main reason that triggered him decide to join the militant organisation.

Soon after his departure, a video of his inconsolable mother, Aisha, went viral on social media in Kashmir.
