- Malhar Patekar was born and raised into family of actor Nana Patekar and actress-writer Neelakanti Patekar.
- As a child, Malhar appeared in his father’s film Prahaar: The Final Attack, where he played the younger version of Nana Patekar’s character in the film.
- In an interview, Nana Patekar revealed that Malhar was interested in joining the Indian Army when he was around 14 years old.
- After completing his academic studies, he went to London, where he completed a professional course in filmmaking.
- In the early 2000s, before entering filmmaking, Malhar worked for about a year at the Genesis advertising agency in Mumbai.
