Controversy	Inappropriate Comments Against Indian Prime Minister: In January 2024, Mariyam Shiuna was suspended from her post of Deputy Minister at the Maldives Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information, and Art by the Maldives Government following her indecent remarks on the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Shiuna referred to Modi as ‘clown’ and ‘puppet of Israel’ in her tweet (which she later deleted) after Modi shared his pictures and videos from his trip to Lakshadweep on social media. • Mariyam Shiuna is a Maldivian politician and journalist, who was appointed as the Deputy Minister at the Maldives Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information, and Art on 27 November 2023. In January 2023, she made some derogatory remarks against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi following which she was suspended from her post by the Maldives Government.

• Mariyam grew up in Male, Maldives.

• Mariyam Shiuna began her career as a journalist at Huvadhoo in Male, Maldives.

• She then joined Alarms Pvt Ltd, a fire and security services company in Maldives, where she worked as an administrative assistant.

• After a while, she started working at GMR Male’ International Airport Ltd.
