Controversy | Fight with Pakistani bowler Shaheen Afridi On 12 February 2025, during the 3rd ODI match of the tri-series against Pakistan, he was batting with the captain Temba Bavuma. During the 29th over, Shaheen Afridi was bowling when he played one ball and made a gesture to a Pakistani fielder by swinging his bat, after which the bowler approached him and had a verbal spat. Later in the over, Afridi also obstructed his path while running a single. - Matthew Breetzke started playing cricket when he was young as his father fully supported him in becoming a cricketer.
- When he was 4 years old, he asked his father for a red leather ball who gifted him one, starting his cricketing journey.
- When he was 6 years old, he met the South African legend Jacques Kallis which made him more determined to become a cricketer.
- In 2008, he scored 154 runs for the Under-10 team of his school, Grey High School, against a rival school, Dale.
- In 2011, he hit 124 runs for the Under-14 school team against the same rival.
- He also trained as a wicketkeeper, but could not learn the technique so dropped the plan.
- He played rugby for his high school team, but later quit the sport to become a cricketer.
