At that time, the young 19-year-old actress declined the proposal, citing that her parents had already arranged her marriage with someone else and she was engaged. However, she later confessed that she had faked the engagement story as an excuse to turn down M. Sellamuthu’s proposal. Meera played the leading role in M. Sellamuthu’s directorial film Sooriya Nagaram (2012). On the other hand, the director denied the allegations and asserted that Meera Nandan was attempting to malign his reputation by spreading false accounts of the incident. M. Sellamuthu claimed that when Meera informed him about her parent’s plans for her wedding with another man, he immediately withdrew his proposal.
