- Meghanathan completed his school education till tenth grade in Shoranur, Palakkad and pursued further education in Chennai where his father, veteran actor Balan K. Nair stayed concerning his work.
- His interest in films was first noticed by director Palissery Narayanankutty Menon (P. N. Menon) in whose house he was a regular while studying in Chennai.
- He played the role of Ravi, the protagonist Indira’s brother, in the Malayalam film Panchagni (1986), written by M. T. Vasudevan Nair and directed by Hariharan.
- His father insisted his children learn a profession considering the instability of the film industry and thus Meghanathan managed his family’s vehicle repair and maintenance business for a long period.
