| Controversy | Bullying Allegations In June 2022, a person came forward with allegations that Nam Joo Hyuk had bullied him during their school years. The person claimed that Nam was part of a group that harassed him over a period of six years, spanning middle school and high school. Nam's management company denied the allegations and called them untrue. The agency also announced that it would file criminal complaints against the person who made the claims. Within a week, on 28 June, another person made similar bullying allegations against Nam. His management once again denied the claims. On 5 July, the Korean news outlet Dispatch published a report containing statements from 20 people connected to Nam's school years. This included two high school teachers and 18 classmates, all of whom defended him against the allegations. The matter later went to court. On 28 March 2024, the Goyang District Court found the original accuser guilty of defamation. The court ordered him to pay 7 million Won as compensation to Nam. The court also stated that Nam did not bully the accuser during their six years together in school and had no connection to any group of bullies. Both people who had made the allegations were held equally responsible for defaming him with false claims. |
