• He grew up in a poor family with not enough money to afford proper hockey gear and equipment.

• He talked about his passion for hockey in an interview and said that when he started to play hockey, he would ride his bicycle every day for 5 km to the only hockey ground in his town and train from 5:00 am to 8:30 am.

• He was inspired by his fellow state athletes such as Chinglensana Singh and Kothajit Singh, to play for India and improve the living conditions of his family.

• In 2011, he started training at the Olympian Ashok Dhyanchand Hockey Academy in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
