• Nuwan’s cricket journey began with playing tennis ball cricket with his friends, later he went on to play six-a-side tournaments for various local clubs starting from his hometown club Dedunu Thalawa, then to Mihindu CC, Weragoda Eksath, Gampaha Eksath before switching to Ragama Super 6s.

• Nuwan was discovered by a local politician while playing in a six-a-side cricket tournament.

• Nuwan’s nickname ‘Podi Malinga’ translates to “Little Malinga” in Sinhalese, this is because his bowling action resembles the former Sri Lankan cricketer Lasith Malinga’s bowling action.
